Gustaf Stresmann
The German Foreign Minister Gustav Stresemann shared the Peace Prize for 1926 with the French Foreign Minister Aristide Briand. They were honored for having signed an agreement of reconciliation between their two countries in the Swiss town of Locarno in 1925. Gustav Stresemann was born in 1878 and died in 1929. Stresemann took Weimar Germany out of its darkest hour when the time of "hyperinlfation" Occurred. They would refer to it as the "Golden Years of Gustav Stresemann was born in 1878 and died in 1929. Stresemann took Weimar Germany out of its darkest hour – hyperinflation – to the so-called ‘Golden Years of Weimar’. He died just before the event that was to have a terminal impact on the Weimar Republic – the Wall Street Crash of 1929.
The Dawes Plan
The Dawes PlanThe Treaty of Versailles had imposed huge reparation payments on Weimar Germany to pay for the damage caused by World War One. It soon became clear that Weimar Germany was simply incapable of paying out the instalments required by Versailles. This ended in 1923 with French and Belgian troops occupying the Ruhr – Germany’s most productive industrial area. The workers there went on strike which simply exacerbated Weimar Germany’s economic standing. By 1924, the country was in dire financial straits.
