The events at Tiananmen square were the first of their type shown in detail on Western television. No one has ever seen people actually killed on the news on live television, it was a new thing to people to experience The Chinese government's response was denounced, particularly by Western governments and media. However, the period of relative political stability was still maintained. Order and economic growth that resulted after the crackdown from 1990 till 2012 saw steadily rising Chinese standards of living(which is bad because they are already struggling), with over 663 million (This is according to the World Bank) Chinese citizens lifted out of poverty. This statistic that claims "Trust and legitimacy of the Chinese government also remained high and has been increasing over the past 4 years (from 2007)from 83% in 2007 to 87% in 2010". No trust between neighbouring nations were actually affected because so many people depend on the trade of China.
