Blog 1: In what ways were South Africa's attempts to get rid of Apartheid similar to india's attempts to get independence? In what ways were they different?
india gained its independence from Great Britain through a long political and social struggle. Africa had the opposition of the blacks and that portrayed a struggle. They were massacred in two situations where they stood up for what they believed. This differs from India because Britain aided them in their fight for independence. Africa was not aided and The U.N later intervened because they refused to get involved with a country that was under an Apartide. more In 1920 Mahatma Gandhi entered the scene and started a movement against the British. Through non-cooperation and peaceful protests Gandhi's movement eventually convinced the British that they needed to leave for its own best interest and India gained independence on August 15, 1947.
Blog 2: The Civil and Women's Rights Movements: In your opinion, why did both of these movements fizzle out after a couple of decades? Are there still some of their goals that are not met?
Woman through history have fought for their rights. Some Woman may feel that they have some issues that aren't cleared out for their sake. Woman want to be as equal as men. Even in the bible it states that a man will be the boss of the house.I can't think of a single right men have in the U.S. which women don't. Women can join the navy, army and even the marines. When someone comes up with a dumbs protest saying "men get paid more than women", its because men probably have better jobs, so please stop saying women don't have equal right. I have lived 18 years. From my experience and all the numerous men and women i have met, women are not prejudiced against in social or work related situations any more then men are. In fact the group that receives the largest amount of help from affirmative action, has always been white women.
